Chiefline Red Angus has been breeding Red Angus for more than 4 decades and counting. Chieflineing is our genetic breeding philosophy where tradition and innovation meet to create fault-free Red Angus cattle. ChiefLine Red Angus continues more than 75 years of sound breeding principals focusing on economically important traits. With an increasing demand for food on a global scale, our passion for providing easy keeping grass efficient cattle meet tis need. Chief Line Red Angus The Beginning
1940s - 1950s
Chief Line Red Angus was started by George and Vernice Chiga in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. George and Vernice purchased Red Angus from Black Angus herds which had sound Line Breeding and Inbreeding programs.Chief Line Red Angus has had a very intense Line Breeding and Inbreeding program for more than 80 years and as a result Chief Line Red Angus are free of genetic defects when evaluated both visually and also by DNA genetic evaluation.
1976
Mark Miller purchased the first Red Angus from George and Vernice Chiga at Red Plains Cattle Company in Guthrie Oklahoma. The beginning of the current Chief Line Red Angus herd with the genetically superior and clean pure Chief Line.
1978
Superior 1223 wins Reserve National Champion Bull Honors at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.
1995
Foundation H3554 and Superior 1223 Females from three Chiga Cows make the Foundation of our current herd.
2000 - Today
2044 Choctaw Chief 373 Miller Chief wins in the head to head Progeny test for Marbling, Ribeye area and Back Fat. Hit’s the target by producing 18 % Prime, 76 % Top Choice and 8 % Low Choice carcasses with no Yield Grade 4’s when bred to cross bred females. Totally hitting the target.
